Moraira Costa Blanca
Villa and Apartment Holidays
Moraira is set in a pretty bay on Spain's Costa Blanca, between hills clad with pine forests and beautiful Blue Flag beaches. Moraira is the ideal welcoming, picture-postcard family resort - friendly, fun and perfect for a relaxing beach holiday in the warm Spanish sun.
Moraira enjoys an average of 325 days of sunshine per year, and temperatures that stay constantly pleasantly warm. The sea breezes ensure it is never sweltering in summer, and the surrounding mountains protect the town from the winter winds.
Moraira is a quiet oasis of peaceful Spanish charm on the Costa Blanca, a popular holiday destination and also a retirement haven in Spain.
At the heart of this pretty town are the original fisherman's sugar-white buildings in a picturesque sandy bay. Today the town has developed into a pretty holiday resort flanked by luxury villas whilst keeping its Spanish character, with its romantic cobbled square and a pace of life that remains unrushed.
There is a variety of good shops, a colourful weekly market, an atmospheric old centre, and many seafront restaurants and bars. The gleaming marina is the pride of the Valencian Community, and there is a smart new waterfront and a smattering of modern plazas.
The golden Tosca stone watchtower by the beach was built in the 18th century, as protection against marauding Barbary pirates. Today the pirate ships are replaced by sleek yachts and boat trips ferrying holidaymakers to local resorts including Calpe or Alicante.
There is a good choice of modern supermarkets and a wide range of beautiful shops in the town. And there are more large supermarkets on the main entrance roads to the town selling both Spanish and international foods and drink.
The town centre offers a wide choice of good quality boutique stores selling designer-wear from jewellery and clothes to shoes and handbags - at prices to suit everyone. There are also shops selling quality local arts and crafts, souvenirs with a wide range of Lladro, and everything else to make your holiday perfect at a reasonable price. The market every Friday sells fresh fruit and vegetables, clothes to leather items, pottery and carpets. You can even get your hair braided! During the summer months, there is also a evening market in the centre of the town selling an astonishing range of jewellery and souvenirs.
This is an important gourmet centre in Spain, with many excellent quality restaurants, several with Michelin stars, and all offering good value for money. The local fishing fleet is still active so local fresh seafood is a major ingredient in the Valencian cuisine.
And families on a budget are well served here too. For a good value meal, look for the fixed price menus available at many restaurants, usually comprising different courses with wine and coffee for a fixed price. Most Spanish bars serve tapas during the day, great for a satisfying snack. Today, it is possible to find restaurants in Moraira offering cuisine from all over the world, from fish and chips to Himalayan.
Nightlife begins very late, and centres on a select group of small disco-bars in the centre of town. Many restaurants also offer live entertainment of some description, including flamenco dancing and karaoke, and there are one or two open-air dance venues. Outside of the peak season there are numerous fiestas, full of local colour and tradition.
Moraira offers great water sports including scuba diving, wind-surfing and jet-skiing. The area is well served for good quality golf courses, including the Club de Golf Ifach, Javea Golf Club and the famous La Sella golf course. There are also several gyms and fitness clubs.
The countryside around Moraira offers beautiful scenery dotted with unspoilt villages. And despite the relaxed traditional ambience of Moraira there is plenty to occupy holiday-makers. There are four sparkling, sandy beaches, bearers of the prestigious EU Blue Flag, with plenty of sport and leisure facilities on offer.
Alicante airport is only 60 minutes away, and within a short drive the excellent motorway provides easy connection to nearby towns and the rest of Spain.
