La Marina, 20 minutes south of Alicante, is a small beach resort set in rolling dunes and with some of the longest beaches on the Costa Blanca, stretching for over 17km.

Like many beach resorts in the area, La Marina is a small village with varied sports facilities, a few cafes and a range of shops and bars. The town is divided into the old pueblo between the coast road and the sea, and the new inland urbanisation.

The larger town of La Marina is about 1.5 Km inland and is a small modern town with supermarkets, many cafes, bars and restaurants.

La Marina is less commercialised than nearby Guardamar or Santo Pola, but still has many restaurants and bars offering traditional Spanish tapas to Mexican, English or Italian cuisine, and much more. The urbanisation has a busy street market on a Thursday morning, and La Marina Sports Centre offers bowls, an outdoor swimming pool, snooker and a range of social and children's activities.

La Marina and the surrounding area is known as the market garden of Europe because of its abundance of orange, lemon, almond, olive and artichoke groves.

Whether you choose a villa or an apartment in the La Marina inland village or the old town, you can still enjoy the fine beaches and unique scenery. The beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches are backed by a lovely pine forest, perfect for picnics, and have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag.

The beaches are well maintained and are patrolled by life guards in the summer. In addition to the usual beach activities, scuba diving and sailing are very popular, and the unique landscape of the pine forests and the rolling dunes are perfect for walking and cycling. The beach at Playa del Pinet is completely unspoiled with sand dunes and long fine golden powdery sands sloping gently down to the warm, shallow, clear waters of the Mediterranean.

There are a couple of small restaurants on the beach offering a variety of dishes throughout the day at attractive prices, but they are usually very busy in the summer, especially with the local residents.

For sports enthusiasts, there is mini-golf, horse riding, quad bike trails and hot-air balloon flights. The mountains dominating the inland areas of La Marina offer endless opportunities for walking and climbing, with spectacular views to reward you when you conquer their peaks. There are also four golf courses within a few miles of a La Marina, the closest of which is La Marquesa, 5km towards Rojales.

During the evenings La Marina's nightlife is fun and varied, with many light-hearted bars and clubs. Or the traditional Spanish bodegas around La Marina make an enjoyable change for an evening of wine and tapas.

Many areas of the urbanisation have fine views of the mountains. A car is advisable if you intend to stay in the urbanisation since the beach is a 10 minute drive.

There is a frequent local bus service to the local towns and markets, and a shuttle bus service to the beach in the summer months. Santa Pola, Guardamar's castle of Santa Barbara, the huge pine forests of Elche and the beautiful salt lagoons of Torrevieja and La Mata are all within a short drive from La Marina.

About one hour by car will bring you to Europes largest theme park - Terra Mitica, which now includes Terra Natura and a huge water park, and there are two local aqua-parks and a go-karting track nearby.
