This resort lies in a fertile valley, sheltered by the Murcia hills and flanked by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor sea. Mar Menor (the little sea) is almost completely separated from the Mediterranean Sea by the "La Manga del Mar Menor", literally meaning 'the sleeve of the little sea'. This small strip of land is about 13 miles long and creates the Mar Menor, a lagoon of 160 sq. km. At its deepest, the Mar Menor is only 8 meters deep and is a constant temperature of 17 Centigrade.
The Mar Menor is one of the favourite summer vacation spots for Murcia residents. Most golfers know the Mar Menor for its three championship golf courses. The resort is upmarket where the majority of accommodation is provided in the hundreds of self-catering apartments and villas which dot the hillsides and line the beachfront. It's ideal for sports lovers and families.
The resort is within reach of Murcia's San Javier Airport which is on the northern side of the Mar Menor. Alicante's international El Altet Airport is just 100 kilometres north. Many visitors never venture beyond the resort which is completely self contained. But there is more to this area which is well worth exploring, especially if you want to see more of the "real Spain".
