Costa Blanca Villas and Apartments

Villas for rent in Hondon de las Nieves, Hondon de los Frailes and the surrounding mountain countryside on the Spanish Costa Blanca, including apartments for rent  and authentic cave-houses.

This listing includes holiday villas, cave-houses and apartments in Hondon, La Canalosa and the rural and mountain areas of Alicante province in inland Spain.

The wine-growing valley of Hondon de las Nieves is named after its patron saint, the Virgin of the Snows. But it very rarely snows here! The region is set between the mountains of Sierra de la Cava to the north and Sierra de Crevillente in the south on the Costa Blanca. This is a tranquil place with holiday homes including villas, apartments and even traditional Spanish cave houses.

Hondon de las Nieves and its neighbouring village, Hondon de los Frailes, are typically Spanish, being rural and offering a warm, friendly welcome. They have changed very little over the years. The fertile valley supports a vibrant agricultural industry, and the villages are famous for their fine table wines and almonds. The valley is short drive from many superb beaches and golf courses.

Elche is the nearest city, famous for Europe’s largest palm groves, and Crevillente, world-renowned for its hand-woven carpets, is about 20 minutes by car. Alicante airport is only about 30 minutes by car.

The population of Hondon de las Nieves is just over 2,000, and is a world apart from the popular beaches and night life on the nearby coast. The village church was built in honour of the Virgin of the Snows. Her statue inside the church is at the heart of village life, and there is a local fiesta dedicated to her name. The town has an attractive square lined with palm trees, perfect for enjoying coffee or glass of wine in the early evenings, reached via traditional Spanish streets with colourful buildings and the baroque 17th-century church of San Pedro. Just outside the town are two pleasant recreational areas where the locals relax, enjoy the views and share in family BBQs.

The nearby Crevillente mountains provide plentiful opportunity for outdoor pursuits, including walking, hiking and horse-riding. The average daytime temperatures are around 24 degrees Centigrade in the Spring and Autumn, and the area enjoys 320 days of sunshine per year.
