Gandia and Oliva are on the Mediterranean coast in the Valencia region and are famous for their many kilometres of stunning white beaches with beautiful mountainous countryside inland. Gandia is one of the largest Costa Blanca towns and a thriving commercial and tourism centre. The historic monuments are in Gandia city with the main commercial and shopping centres, whilst the apartments and villas are close to the beach. The bars and nightclubs are also concentrated in the beach area, where nightlife does not start until
well after midnight. The beach and the town centre are about 2 km apart so separating the tourism from day to day living. The city centre has many tree-lined avenues, with bars, restaurants and shops, and there is a huge shopping mall area outside of the city.
With its long wide golden sandy beaches, Gandia is one of the major tourist destinations in Spain. Traditionally most tourists
visiting Gandia have been Spanish, especially from Madrid, but in recent years, Gandia has
been an increasingly popular with the British and French.
Gandia has a wide culture, including literary contests, the Summer University, the International Festival of Classical Music,
art exhibitions, etc, and a wide variety of sports, especially water-sports, golf, tennis, hiking, etc.
One major tourist attraction is the Palace of Santo Duque in the old city centre which has been declared a Spanish national monument. Other attractions include the church La Colegiata in the Plaza de la Constitucion,
and the old university building Antigua Universidad.
Oliva is a short distance south, and has a beautiful old town centre. With summer temperatures of sometimes exceeding 40 degrees, these towns are some of the best places to visit on a hot summer day - you will find a great mix of shopping, sightseeing and beaches.
